PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Crews are still working to restore power to thousands across Oregon and southwest Washington on Tuesday morning.
As many as 100,000 people were without power at some point on Monday as the rare April snow took a toll on both trees and powerlines.
Portland General Electric said more than 9,300 customers were in the dark around 6 a.m. on Tuesday. After nearly an hour, more than 13,000 people are without power across Oregon, although areas at higher elevations, including Portland’s North and Southwest Hills, have the largest cluster of outages. At 2 p.m., nearly 7,000 customers were still without power.
Crews with Pacific Power worked to restore power to the previously reported 98 customers that were without power. The utility company said only 30 customers were still experiencing a power outage at 7:20 a.m. — that number increased to 92 customers by 2 p.m.
In southwest Washington, Clark Public Utilities was working to restore power to more than 1,000 people at 4:30 a.m. After three hours, crews had cut that number nearly in half. By 2 p.m., there were just 190 people still without power.
