MOUNT HOOD, Ore. (KOIN) — Better late than never: there’s finally enough snow for more ski resorts to open for the season.
Snow is falling on Mount Hood Thursday, but the real accumulation is expected Friday through Sunday.
That’s when feet of fresh snow — that’s right, feet of fresh snow — is predicted to change the look and feel of the mountain.
After a late start, the ski lifts at Ski Bowl are finally running, about a month behind their scheduled opening. The new snow at Government Camp is a welcome sight for those ready to hit the slopes.
Ski Bowl spent the weekend grooming their track and made the last, final touches on Thursday.
“We went from almost having no snow left, 40 degree weather,and here we are, open within 3 days,” said Mike Quinn, the Vice President and General Manager of Ski Bowl. “With the forecast it looks like we are going to have everything open within one or 2 days.”
Rich Zabst was thrilled to be on the mountain and in the snow.
“It’s beautiful. We have been waiting for this for a long time and it’s finally here, so we are enjoying it,” Zabst said.
Timberline is also embracing the snow. Officials said the last 2 dyas have been busier with the fresh snow. With the forecast and ticket counts piling up, Timberline expects more people to come out this weekend.

While most of the snow is expected in the Cascades, people should be prepared for the chance of snow on the valley floor in the Portland metro.
