PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Erikka Baldwin is a 5th-grader but she’s already won election as governor. Oregon’s Kid Governor.
Erikka, who attends McCormack Elementary in Eugene, was at the KOIN 6 News studios Wednesday to talk about her main platform: adopting shelter pets.
She held Tori, a terrier mix from the Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals, as she talked about her 3 point plan:
> People can create posters in humane societies around the state to encourage forever homes
> Students can go on field trips to read to pets at shelters and humane societies
> People can bring dogs and cats into schools to see if anyone wants to adopt them
Tori came to Oregon from a high kill shelter in California. She’s described as a “Great American Shelter Dog mix” and is great with other pets. She probably needs to be adopted with another dog which will help keep her calm.
Erikka will take part in different activities throughout the year to bring awareness to her issue — forever homes for shelter pets.
