Police: Gresham man attacked with crowbar

GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN 6) – A 36-year-old man is accused of assaulting another man with a crowbar, according to police and prosecutors.

Gresham police said they responded to a disturbance with a weapon Sunday night in the 900-block of East Powell Boulevard.

Officer Tommy Walker found the victim, Mitchell Thompson, bleeding profusely from the head, police said. Thompson was transported to a local hospital, police said. Officers learned that Thompson had been hit in the head with a crowbar.

David Scott Wiggins told police he didn’t hit anyone with a crowbar or any other weapon, deputy district attorney Chris Mascal wrote in court documents. Wiggins told police that he was the one who was attacked. Walker wasn’t able to find any injuries.

Wiggins told police that he suspected Thompson of stealing his friend’s cell phone and that Wiggins confronted the victim about the missing phone. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center early Monday morning on one count of second-degree assault.

Wiggins entered a not guilty plea Monday. He is scheduled to be in court later this month.
