Powell’s immediately sells out of ‘Fire and Fury’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — If you were hoping to pick up a hard copy of the explosive new book about President Donald Trump’s campaign, you’re already out of luck.

Michael Wolff’s book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” quickly shot atop Amazon’s best-seller list, and the publisher moved up its release date by 4 days, to Friday.

“Fire and Fury” paints a derogatory portrait of Trump, describing him as an undisciplined man-child who didn’t actually want to win the White House.

Trump’s attorney Charles Harder sent a cease-and-desist letter dated Thursday to Wolff.

The same letter was also sent to Steve Rubin, president and publisher of Henry Holt and Co. It demands a halt to publication of the book or of excerpts.

People lined up outside Powell’s downtown store before it opened at 9 a.m. and immediately scooped up all 30 copies. Many in line said their main motivation for wanting the book was the fact that Trump was trying to stop it from being published.

“I knew it was going to be something pretty big,” Matthew Alex told KOIN 6 News. “With Trump’s people trying to put a stop on it, that kind of made me more interested in it. And if Trump didn’t want me to spend money on it, then I might as well come and do that.”

Powell’s will get more copies next Thursday.

Other local booksellers Annie Blooms Books and Broadway Books said they had limited copies as well, but all were reserved or pre-orders.
