Suspect accused of punching jogger arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A jogger in Northeast Portland was randomly attacked by a man who hit her in the face and broke several bones.

Susanna Stewart told KOIN 6 News she was jogging at NE 15th and Brazee around 3:10 p.m. Sunday when a man punched her in the face without any provocation.

Police later arrested the suspect and identified him as 50-year-old Michael R. Hart.

“I was wearing headphones and I couldn’t hear anything he was saying,” Stewart told KOIN 6 News. “I couldn’t tell if he was trying to get me to stop and talk to him or he wanted me to go around. I went around to pass him on my right and he just cold-cocked me.”

She dropped to the ground bleeding and began screaming for help. Neighbors rushed out and followed Hart, but he got away.

However, police arrested Hart Wednesday morning.

Police said some officers thought they know who he is based on past arrests. When Stewart posted the assault on Nextdoor, she found several people posting they also had run-ins with him in the past — including getting punched.

Hart was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on 1 charge of 2nd-degree assault and 2nd-degree disorderly conduct.
