PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) – Two men have been indicted by a grand jury for the death of a teen in July 2001.
Court documents show the indictment against Ramon Manuel Gonzalez, 35, and Luis Felipe Gonzalez, 42, was filed April 28. The indictment was unsealed late Tuesday after cold case homicide detectives filed the paperwork with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. The indictment shows both are charged with one count of murder with a firearm and six counts of attempted aggravated murder with a firearm.
Police responded to the intersection of Southeast 82nd Avenue and Powell around 11:50 p.m. July 27, 2001 to investigate a shooting. Detectives learned that shots had been fired into a white minivan that was traveling southbound on SE 82nd. The gunfire struck the people inside, police said at the time.
The victims arrived at the hospital a short time later. Police said 19-year-old Pedro Francisco Valenzuela was pronounced dead on July 28 after midnight. The other person who was shot, Juan Garcia, survived, police said.
Valenzuela was known to police and he was reported to be an 18th Street gang member, officers said at the time of the shooting.
Ramon Manuel Gonzalez and Luis Felipe Gonzalez are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in the Multnomah County Justice Center, records show.
