West Linn HS principal: ‘Just disbelief’

WEST LINN, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The community of West Linn is still coming to grips with the death of two high school students on Saturday, bringing to 4 the number who died within the past 8 months.

Grief counselors are at West Linn High School to help those distraught over the deaths of Antonio Caballero and Cooper Hill on Saturday. The juniors died in a crash in the Gorge when their car was sandwiched between two others on Hwy 14.

Their deaths brought back the grief felt last June when Maddi Higgins and Hayden Soyk died in a crash. The Higgins family knows exactly what the Caballero and Hill families are going through.

“It’s been a really difficult year, for sure,” Higgins father told KOIN 6 News on Monday. “The support we had from family and friends in the community and her softball community” helped get them through.

West Linn High School principal Lou Bailey remains stunned at the tragedy.

“Losing four (students) in just eight months is just disbelief,” he said.

Grief counselors will remain at the school throughout the week.
