Woman arrested after police chase with 3 kids in car

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Three children are OK after being in an SUV with a female driver who was being chased by police.

Portland Police say they received multiple 911 calls regarding a reckless driver in the area of Northeast 70th Ave. and Sandy Blvd. about 12:30 Saturday afternoon.

A witness claims they heard someone inside the SUV say something about a gun. Another witness reported the woman was trying to run people off the road. Another 911 caller saw a young person in the front seat of the SUV crying.

Near North Interstate Ave. and Lombard St. the driver of the SUV rammed a patrol car and sped away. Officers chased the suspect to North Cecelia St. and Portsmouth Ave. where they were able to spin the car into a stop and arrest the driver.

The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Amanda Christine Shelton. The kids are 3, 5 and 11 and are related to the driver, although their exact relationship hasn’t been revealed. The kids are safe and were turned over to family.
