Woman flees airport, jumps on MAX after TSA finds pot

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A woman ran through Portland International Airport, jumped on a MAX train and ran into a nearby hotel in an effort to ditch police after TSA found marijuana inside her carryon luggage, according to Port of Portland Police. 

Laurie Wolfinger, 64, remains in the Multnomah County Inverness Jail. She was arrested on March 17 by airport police. She is now charged with unlawfully exporting marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana. 

According to a police summary, Wolfinger went through the D/E checkpoint at PDX as she was preparing for her flight to Atlanta, Georgia. Her carryon bag ended up get a second screening from TSA. When the TSA officer opened her bag to inspect the contents, the officer discovered a large sealed bag of suspected marijuana. 

“Wolfinger fled the inspection area and ran down the concourse connector to the ABC exit,” according to the report. “She then got on the MAX train which left the PDX station before police officers could arrive.”

Wolfinger rode the MAX out to the Mt. Hood station where she got off and entered the nearby Marriot Hotel lobby. 

“Wolfinger’s belongings had been left behind at the D/E checkpoint where they were seized by the police,” the report states. 

Police searched her belongings and discovered over 8 pounds of dried marijuana and marijuana product. 

Wolfinger is due back in court on March 26. A court appointed attorney entered a not guilty plea on Wolfinger’s behalf.
