PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Police found a woman dead after a domestic violence incident early Monday morning.
Officers responded to the Alderwood Apartments in the 17200 block of SE Alder Street around 3 a.m. after a woman’s family reported her male partner had assaulted her. Police tried to contact the woman and her partner but weren’t able to.
A man, later identified as 28-year-old Robert L. West, was eventually forced out of the apartment and taken into custody. Shortly after, police spoke with family members who had arrived at the scene, and they appeared distraught.
Portland police confirmed 26-year-old Lila F. Streeter was found dead. The Oregon State Medical Examiner said she died of homicidal violence and homicide detectives are investigating.
Neighbors told KOIN 6 News they heard arguing earlier in the night. Police said the man is known to them and possibly had access to firearms.
Officers shut down several blocks in the area and evacuated nearby apartments.
West is being held at the Multnomah County Jail on one count of murder.
