Oregon State Republican leaders addressed the public Sunday, calling out Democratic leaders for “rushing to conclusions” for political gain in response to Thursday’s shooting in Portland involving federal agents, while also urging Oregonians to respect law enforcement “at every level.”

About 100-150 people were seen gathering outside the Portland ICE facility around 10 p.m. Saturday night after other protests were held around the Rose City throughout the day.

Protests are taking place at multiple locations across the Portland metro area on Saturday, coinciding with nationwide anti-ICE demonstrations.

Political analyst and former Oregon State Senator Rick Metsger is demanding accountability after the estimated cost for the I-5 Bridge Replacement Project has doubled.

In this week's Give Me a Minute, Metsger explained that a public records request revealed the $6 to $7 billion price tag for the project has ballooned to nearly $14 billion, despite transportation officials recently testifying they did not have an estimate.

Multnomah County Commissioner Shannon Singleton weighed in on the impact Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity has had on the community.

In this week's Eye on Northwest Politics, Singleton said the recent shooting involving Border Patrol agents in Portland on Thursday is another example of the "chaos and fear" that has been sewn in the community at the hands of the federal government. From schools abruptly closing to people in need avoiding food pantries, Singleton said the ongoing ICE activity in North and Northeast has been deeply felt.

Two people were injured after federal agents opened fire on the streets of Southeast Portland. This comes one day after a deadly shooting by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. The Portland shooting happened not far from the Southeast Portland home of Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.).

Merkley joined this week's Eye on Northwest Politics to discuss the recent shootings, the explanation from the Department of Homeland Security, as well as a call for state investigation into federal actions.
