This week, Portland City Council considered a resolution to use $21 million in unspent funds to help people struggling to afford rent, focused on preventing homelessness. The unspent money from within the Portland Housing Bureau was discovered as part of an accounting error. Portland City Councilor Candace Avalos - who represents east Portland in District 1 - introduced the resolution, as Chair of the Housing and Homelessness Committee.

Councilor Avalos returned to Eye on Northwest Politics to talk about how her plan could help renters and reduce homelessness.

As the only Republican in the Oregon congressional delegation, Rep. Cliff Bentz (R-Ore.) is in the unique position at home, but in the majority in Washington, D.C. Bentz represents Oregon's District 2, one of the largest congressional districts in the nation. It essentially covers all of eastern Oregon, and a majority of southern and central Oregon. That includes the city of The Dalles and a bill Rep. Bentz has introduced will have major implications for the city's water rights, as well as the uses of federal land.
