Republican lawmakers are ramping up an effort to derail Oregon's new transportation bill because of higher taxes and fees. Republicans resisted the package, saying the increases in the gas tax, registration fees and payroll tax are too much. Democrats say the increases are needed to prevent hundreds of layoffs at the Oregon Department of Transportation and make a dent in the state's transportation needs, like fixing the roads.
