Thousands lose power as winter weather rolls in

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Thousands of Oregonians were without power Wednesday morning as winter weather sweeps through the region.

Portland General Electric reports crews managed to cut the number of customers experiencing power loss nearly in half. Within four hours, PGE says crews have restored power to almost 5,000 Oregonians. As of 2:40 p.m., outages were reduced to 51.

The cause for several of those outages remains under investigation.

Pacific Power was busy with similar issues, with multiple outages reported south of Salem. As of 9:15 a.m., about 225 residents were still without electricity. Five hours later, just 25 reported outages remained.

Earlier in the morning, the company was listing a large outage in Northeast Portland that impacted more than 1,700 residents in Northeast Portland. Power has since been turned back on for those residents.

Meanwhile, Clark Public Utilities listed two outages as of 9:15 a.m. Earlier in the morning, crews were working to restore power to more than 400 Washingtonians. The organization reported all power had been restored by Wednesday afternoon.
