VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — A $2500 reward is now being offered for information about the death of Benjamin Lyons, the 83-year-old security guard killed while on patrol at Vancouver business complex February 26.
Lyons, who had worked for Knighthawk Protection for about a year, was killed around midnight Sunday night by sharp and blunt force injuries.
The investigation is ongoing but there are no suspects at this time, police said.
Lyons’ son, Terry Lyons, told KOIN 6 News on Friday he spoke with his dad about 30 minutes before and all was fine. Tery said he hopes the reward will help find whoever brutally killed his father.
“Please call,” he said. “Whatever you think, whether you think it’s worthy or not, just do it.”
Lyons’ wife, Frances, said she never worried about her husband’s safety, despite his age. Sometimes, when she heard stories from work, she had a few concerns. But she said she knew he was safety conscious and alert.
She also knew that Benjamin didn’t have to work security. He had been a carpenter by trade, but moved into security in 2006. He didn’t have to work anymore if he didn’t want to, but Frances said doing security was more than a job.
“He enjoyed getting out there and mingling with people,” Frances said.
A Celebration of lLfe ceremony is planned for 1 p.m. March 23 at the Columbia Christian Church in Vancouver.
