PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Distracted driving and speed are believed to be factors in a head-on crash that killed one person and hurt 2 others in Klamath County.

The crash between a Jeep Liberty and a Dodge Ram towing a travel trailer happened on Hwy 97 near milepost 197 Thursday, the Oregon State Police said. Investigators said the driver of the Jeep drifted onto the shoulder, overcorrected and slammed head-on into the Dodge Ram.

The Jeep driver, from Bend, died at the scene and has not yet been publicly identified.

The couple in the Dodge are residents of California. They were taken to a Bend area hospital for treatment and are expected to recover.
