PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man and three children are shaken up after a rollover crash near Sherwood Saturday night.
Nathan Ferrell was driving his two daughters and their friend home from the Highland Games when they were hit on Hwy 99 near SW Chapman Road.
Washington County deputies say a 1993 Ford Ranger pulled out in front of Ferrel’s 2009 Mazda, forcing him off the road just after 9:30 p.m.
“As soon as we hit and we swerved, I realized we are in a car accident. I didn’t feel anything but I knew we were in a car accident, then we started rolling,” said Ferrell’s daughter, Naomi.
Deputies found the Mazda on its side but all four people were able to unbuckle and get upright but had to wait for firefighters to get them out.
“They were able to break the windshield and back window,” Naomi said.
“If it would have happened 50 feet earlier we would hit farm equipment,” Ferrell said. “If we would have rolled one more time, we would have been in a pond.”
Ferrell has a swollen neck and bruised ribs, his daughter has a brace on her wrist and their friend got a black eye and bloody nose but no one’s injuries were life-threatening.
“I have to say we were blessed, we were definitely blessed by God,” Farrell said.
About 2 miles down the road, deputies found the Ford in a ditch — the driver nowhere to be found.
Witnesses said the driver was picked up by another car after crashing.
Deputies tracked down the suspected driver, Manuel Naim Lujan-Rivera of St. Paul. The 21-year-old faces charges of 3rd-degree assault, 3 counts of 4th-degree assault, failure to perform the duties of a driver and driving while suspended. He is being held on $10,000 bail.
