PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A scorcher has arrived Sunday, bringing the hottest temperatures in the Portland metro since the record-shattering heatwave of 2021.
A Heat Advisory is in effect for western Oregon and Washington through Monday.
Sunday is 40 degrees hotter in Portland than exactly one week ago, when we had our 4th straight consecutive cool and rainy weekend.
The region will have one more day in the low 90s on Monday before the rest of the week is sunny and pleasant.
Counties have announced cooling centers that are open in the region to help those residents who need a place to cool down.
As of 4 p.m., Portland metro temperatures are hovering right around 100 degrees, with the max heating of the day between now and about 6pm. Although NOT official, the temperature appears to have hit as high as 99 at PDX shortly before 4 p.m.
But, until the official climate report comes out later. There are only official hourly reports at the top of each hour. So, whatever happens “during the hour” is NOT reflected here. We may still hit 100 during the 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. hours.
It is hot no matter how you slice it! But, NO records fell on Sunday due to the one-year anniversary of the great heatwave, when Portland hit 108, followed by 112 and ending with 116 the following day.
There is no rain in the forecast for at least the next seven days and that leads us into the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Officials remind the public to check on those most vulnerable and to never leave children locked, alone in a car.
