PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – One person has died following an officer-involved shooting in the Hazelwood neighborhood Wednesday night, the Portland Police Bureau said.

PPB responded to a report that someone was shooting a gun in the front yard of a home on Southeast 126th Avenue near East Burnside Street. Once officers arrived, police say an officer from the Focused Intervention Team fired their weapon — killing the suspect.

“The level of violence officers have been responding to is unprecedented,” said Assistant Chief of Investigations Jami Resch, who was on scene.

Witnesses who live nearby told KOIN 6 they saw a man shoot in the air, then aim at officers before police returned fire.
