PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An investigation was launched Friday after a man was found dead in Portland’s Roseway neighborhood, officials said.
At around 7:20 a.m. Friday, Portland police received a report of a person shot near the intersection of NE 65th Avenue and Beech Street. Officers said they found a man dead when they arrived.
According to PPB, homicide detectives and the Forensic Evidence Division will be collecting evidence in the area for several hours.
Police said there is no ongoing risk to the public.
Neighbor Lana Danaher realized something was happening on her street when she stepped outside to water her plants Friday morning.
“Looked down, saw lots of cops, so figured it was something serious, especially when I saw what I suspected was the forensics team,” Danaher said.
Danaher told KOIN 6 News she has lived in the area for 30 years, noting that the neighbors are close-knit. Despite rising crime in Portland, she said she still feels safe.
“Yes, there is crime and there’s people who complain about it because they’ve seen the increase over the years. I’m not terribly concerned about it,” Danaher said.
As of Friday, 55 people have been shot to death in Portland in 2022.
From Friday to Monday, Portland police responded to 21 shootings. According to police, in that 72-hour period 12 people were shot and three were killed.
“I know people are very eager to condemn Portland right now, but I’ve seen come up and go down and I love this city and I feel like it’s in a challenging time,” Danaher said. “Yes, this is terrible but it’s happening in all size cities in all types of neighborhoods.”
