PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Three people facing charges for separate homicides in Portland over the weekend made their first court appearance Monday afternoon, and some dramatic moments took place when the wife of one victim addressed the court.
The search for a suspect in a fourth homicide in the 24-hour period continues.
The suspects in the separate homicides are Stephen Matthew Toelle, 31; Dorian Cannon, 50; and 20-year-old Kalil C. Ford. All 3 entered not guilty pleas to their respective charges.
The 4 homicides
It all began early Friday morning when police say 31-year-old Stephen Matthew Toelle shot and killed a person on Southeast 148th Street, between Southeast Stark and East Burnside streets.
During Toelle’s arraignment, the victim’s wife addressed the court.
“Stephen Toelle intentionally shot my husband 6 times in the abdomen on 148th and Stark, willingly and knowingly killed Dusty Baker — my husband — violently seeked him out after a home robbery of his own,” Mrs. Baker said.
About nine hours later, police said a person was stabbed to death in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood. The suspect, 50-year-old Dorian Cannon, was found a few blocks away and arrested. Court documents obtained by KOIN 6 News reveals Cannon is seen on video stabbing Anthony Hartley in the neck.
Then, a second person was stabbed to death on Northwest Broadway and Couch. Twenty-year-old Kalil C. Ford was arrested and booked for second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, according to court documents.

The fourth homicide happened Saturday morning on Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 162nd. Police said one person was shot and killed. The suspect in this case remains at large.
Scott Kerman, the executive director of Blanchet House, said they don’t know if they have served any one of these victims specifically. Regardless, these incidents are hard on everyone.
“It’s a tragedy that affects the people that we serve. It’s something that we deeply feel, there’s just a lot of tragedy like this,” he said.
So far in 2022 there have officially been 72 homicides, one more than at this point in the record-setting year of 2021.
