PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Friday was a dreary day weather-wise in Hillsboro, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the two big OSAA 6A Football winners as the west proved to truly be the best.
First, Westview dominated North Salem in a 51-22 romp that earned the Wildcats the inaugural Columbia Cup. Westview hardly had to put the ball in the air at all as they stampeded North Salem with 464 yards on the ground, 418 of them coming courtesy of their blue-chip running back Jordan Fisher.
The second game was for all the marbles between the Sheldon Irish and the West Linn Lions. After a hard-fought battle the Lions prevailed 23-14 to capture the state championship. Duel-threat West Linn quarterback Sam Leavitt compiled 302 yards of offense, 171 on the ground and 131 through the air, and the Lions put the game on ice with a clutch field goal late in the fourth quarter.
