PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Coast Guard crews rescued an injured man whose fishing boat ran aground near Chinook Harbor, Washington on Monday.

The man suffered a head injury after the boat ran aground.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River command center in Astoria were notified of the call around 10:40 a.m and reached the scene about 20 minutes later with a small boat crew and a Jayhawk helicopter.

The injured man was hoisted onto the helicopter by the crew along with the help of 4 other people who were on the boat. The man was sent to Air Station Astoria and then to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he has since been reported as stable.

The Coast Guard reminds boaters to be aware and to be safe during low tides.
