ROSEBURG, Ore. (KOIN) — The carnage at Umpqua Community College erupted October 1, 2015 on campus at Snyder Hall.

Ten people, including the shooter, died. Another 8 were seriously wounded.

At the time, Rita Cavin was the president of UCC. New president Deborah Thatcher told KOIN 6 News the campus has somewhat healed.

“This brought it to a different level, the caring that came out. I don’t know that people realized how much they cared about each other, how much they cared about this college, its role in the community,” Thatcher said.

“It made people sensitive, and this long term, the recovery, will be forever. People are so sensitive to that. I don’t want to overuse the word, but they’re also stronger for it.”
