PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man firing shots at windows in Troutdale was wounded by a responding Multnomah County sheriff’s deputy in the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, police responded around 1:40 a.m. to the report of a man firing shots near Home Depot on Southeast Stark Street.

A security guard who did not want to appear on camera told KOIN 6 News the location has private security but only during normal business hours. The guard said night shift employees were inside and authorities said the workers were asked to shelter in place.

Deputies and Gresham police, who also responded to the scene, told the suspect to drop his weapon. But, officials said, as the situation continued a deputy shot the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries and then was booked on an unlawful use of a weapon charge, as well as other crimes, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing and that the deputy who fired his weapon is on administrative leave, standard procedure in these situations.

The names of the suspect and the deputy were not immediately released.

No other injuries were reported.
