SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — An armed man wanted for violating his parole was arrested Thursday afternoon inside a house under construction in a residential neighborhood of Salem.

The search for Robert Steven Dailey began around noon when 2 Community Corrections deputies spotted him walking on a path near the neighborhood in the area around Elma and Durbin avenues. It put 4 Salem-Keizer schools on lockdown for a brief time as deputies and K-9 teams spread out.

When the deputies tried to arrest him, Dailey pulled out a handgun before fleeing into the neighborhood, authorities said.

Around 4 p.m., a SWAT unit surrounded the house under construction on Glenwood Drive SE near Elma Avenue and the 38-year-old Dailey was taken into custody without incident.

Dailey has an extensive criminal past, including arrests for criminally negligent homicide, drugs, stealing a car and unlawful use of a firearm.

By 3 p.m. the lockdowns at Houck, Mary Eyre, Roberts and Four Corners were lifted along with Salem-Keizer Central Services.

No one was hurt in the incident.
