PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An arrest warrant has been issued for an Oregon man who accused of fleeing to Mexico to avoid child sex abuse charges.
FBI Special Agent Timothy Suttles says in a complaint accusing Jose Maria Nonato Pineda of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution that he has probable cause to believe the suspect headed south after learning of the investigation in February.
The investigation started when Nonato Pineda’s wife told Deschutes County authorities her husband sexually abused a relative. Detectives later found two more victims.
An affidavit filed by the special agent says the family is divided. One victim may have taken the suspect to California, where he crossed the border and caught a bus to Sinaloa.
A grand jury in April indicted Nonato Pineda on charges of rape and sex abuse.
