PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hillsboro police have released few details as their investigation continues into the fatal shooting of an armed man in their West Precinct parking lot Monday evening.

Two men pulled into the driveway that leads to the secure parking lot at Southeast Baseline and 10th just after 6 p.m., police said. Both drivers got out of their vehicles and started arguing.

Officers said one of the drivers was armed with a handgun and refused to drop it when they ordered him to do so. Officers fired several shots, killing him.

It’s unclear at this time if the man fired any shots.

The officers and the other driver were not hurt.

The armed man was not in custody when he was shot, officers said, and his name has not been released. Police said they had not been able to notify his family as of Tuesday afternoon.

Two unnamed officers were placed on paid leave. Hillsboro Police Sgt. Eric Bunday told KOIN 6 News their identities “will be released in the coming days” after the initial investigation is completed.

Nearby shop owners said they heard several gunshots Monday evening but did not venture outside. They said they were later told by police to stay inside while the investigation was being carried out.

KOIN 6 News learned Hillsboro police do have body cam video of the shooting but have yet released it.

Police are asking anyone who was in the parking lot who may have dashcam video to check the footage.
