PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Subway franchise owner in Salem can’t seem to catch a break as thieves continue to burglarize his restaurants.
Between Christmas Eve and this past weekend, 3 of Chris Luth’s Subway locations have been broken into. But he isn’t worried about the smashed windows or money, just the safety of those who work for him.
“It’s affecting my staff. Everybody is worried now,” Luth told KOIN 6 News. “I know not only myself, but my managers, they go to bed at night thinking ‘OK am I going to get a call?’ I wake up throughout the night wondering ‘What’s going to be next? which store is going to be next?'”
The first break in was early on Christmas Eve when a pair of men smashed the drive-thru window, climbed in looking for cash. It was all caught on security camera.
Three days later another of Luth’s shops was hit and another on January 13.
“I believe it’s the same guys,” Luth said. “They did the same type of thing.”
During the latest incident, the duo walked in during closing time when an employee was still in the restaurant.
“The big guy jumped over the sandwich unit and went into the back and asked my employee to come out front and give him the money,” Luth said.
Now Luth is rethinking things — training his staff and tweaking his cameras.
“I’ve already had really good security measures but now I’m doubling up on those measures,” he said. “I hope the cops are able to find these guys.”
