Tim has no remorse or regrets about the fact that he can never run for the office of President of the United States. Being born in the Philippine Islands excludes him from that particular subset of Americans.

He was born on the Island of Luzon in Sagada, Bontoc Mt.Province, where he lived before moving to Baguio city with his family. Tim spent 12 years growing up overseas before moving to the U.S. His family landed in East Wenatchee, Washington and most have since scattered across the country. Not Tim. He’s the only Becker left in the great Northwest, and proud of it.

Armed with a degree in Communications and Broadcast Journalism from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, Tim began his broadcasting career in 1986. Since then, he’s spent most of his time on the job at various TV stations in Oregon. He spent six years cutting his journalistic teeth at KDRV in Medford, where he helped start up a dominant news operation that’s still No. 1 to this day. Tim also worked in Orlando, Salt Lake City (KSTU) and Seattle (KOMO), before moving to Portland, where he’s been working since 1997.

During his decades as a broadcaster, Tim feels blessed to have met and worked with wonderful people from all walks of life, and to have been a part of so many things that so few ever have the opportunity to experience. From big-time sporting events like the BCS title game and NBA finals, to being inside the operating room when former MLB player Ben Petrick, stricken with Parkinson’s disease, was undergoing brain surgery to improve his life. Tim produced and wrote a two-part series on Ben’s fight against the disease that stole his career as a pro athlete. Stories like Ben’s are what Tim enjoys doing most.

Tim reports daily for KOIN 6. He also dabbles in other on-camera work and similar projects. He has played small roles in such things as Grimm — a network TV series shot in Portland — and the movies Untraceable (starring Diane Lane) and Management (starring Jennifer Aniston).
