PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 32-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a woman, damaging cars and licking a man’s face, among other things.
Police were called to the area of SE 9th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard around 3:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman being assaulted in the area.
The suspect, Matthew Joseph Medlin, then jumped onto a police patrol car, climbed a tree and ran into a restaurant, Portland Police Bureau said. Workers got him out of the kitchen and officers struggled to get him to the ground before arresting him.
He was sedated and taken to the hospital for a drug intoxication evaluation.
Investigators on the scene learned Medlin damaged 3 other cars. He’s also accused of attacking a man and licking his face, according to police.
He is expected to be charged with second-degree burglary, 4 counts of first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, attempted assault of a public safety officer, second-degree disorderly conduct and harassment once he’s released from the hospital.
