PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Police have arrested an 18-year-old who they say is responsible for a shooting that happened on July 7, 2015 on Northeast 60th near Interstate 84.
Frederick Maurice Everett was transported on Tuesday from the North Coast Youth Correctional Facility to the Multnomah County Inverness Jail.
He is now being held on a grand jury indictment that charges him with attempted murder, attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault and four counts of unlawful use of a weapon. The shooting was reported around 6 p.m. and 15 minutes after the shooting a 17-year-old boy arrived at a local hospital suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to police.
About an hour after the shooting was reported, a 66-year-old woman called emergency dispatchers and told police that she had got off of a TriMet bus and was walking on 60th Avenue when she saw a black male chasing another black male. She then heard gunshots and thought someone was trying to take her backpack.
Officers looked at the backpack and found that it had been struck by a bullet. The woman was not hurt during the shooting.
Everett was originally arrested a few days after the shooting. Prosecutors, at the time, charged him with one count each of riot, attempted third-degree assault and second-degree disorderly conduct for a separate shooting that happened May 25, 2015. The case was dismissed pending additional investigation.
