MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. (KOIN) — Travis Dow lost his fiancee, Sarena Moore, in the shooting at Umpqua Community College October 1. Her service dog also lost the woman he lived with and for.

Sarena Moore's service dog "knows she's been missing," said her fiancee, Travis Dow, Oct. 10, 2015 (KOIN)

“(The dog) has his moments when he’s drooping and everything because he knows she’s been missing,” Dow told KOIN 6 News.

Inside their small apartment in Myrtle Creek, the dog — named Bullet by previous owners — still lays in front of Sarena’s door at night. He has her favorite hat, a piece of the woman who loved all animals.

“I got that back in her personal possessions. I gave it to him. He uses that, lays down on it and everything else,” Dow said. “I’m not going to take that from him because it’s part of who she was. He walks around with that every now and then with that in his mouth.

He said his new best friend will always be a reminder of the woman they both miss so much.

“It’s going to be hard,” he said. “But me and him got the willpower to make it together.”
