PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Police have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman in Portland’s Lents neighborhood.
Kceon Colbert is wanted on murder charges, the Portland Police Bureau said Friday. He’s 18 years old, 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds.
Colbert’s girlfriend, Shai-India Harris, was shot and killed July 10 in broad daylight in the 7400 block of 84th Avenue. Neighbors said they heard someone fire one-to-four shots before seeing Shai fall to the ground. One witness said he saw her walking down the street just before the shooting and said it looked as if someone in a car had called her over, and when she neared the car window, she was shot.
The young woman was laid to rest last week. Her family said she’d been trying to end her relationship with Colbert when she was killed.
Harris’ family told KOIN 6 News they were planning to hold a memorial on Friday night at Peninsula Park but canceled it because Colbert has been making threats on social media, vowing to kill anyone who was close to Harris.
Portland investigators have been dealing with a recent spike in deadly shootings. The Portland Police Bureau said there have been 15 homicides reported in the city since July 1. Homicide detectives say this is the deadliest month they’ve seen in 30 years.
Relatives of Harris believe that as long as her accused killer walks free, the public — and those who were closest to Harris — aren’t safe. They have issued a plea for Colbert to turn himself in.
If you see Colbert, immediately call 911. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Michael Greenlee at 503.823.0871 or Detective Brad Clifton at 503.823.0696.
