PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Nine people were arrested and police cars were heavily damaged during a riot at the North Precinct of the Portland Police Bureau on the 85th consecutive night of protests in the city.
PPB reported several officers being targeted by protesters who reportedly threw a railroad spike, eggs, bottles, golf balls, rocks ball bearings, plastic eggs filled with paint and balloons filled with feces. Additionally a street sign was torn up and used to vandalize police cars; windows were smashed and tires were deflated, according to PPB.
A Boys and Girls Club van was also the target of vandalism. Police said some people in the group broke the van’s window.

Of the nine arrested following the 85th night of protesting in Portland, several face charges of assaulting a police officer, attempted assault of a police officer, criminal tresspass and disorderly conduct.
Earlier in the night
About 200 people arrived at Portland Police Bureau North Precinct after a march from Irving Park, which turned into the riot.
The Irving Park march began at 8 p.m. and the plan was to move at 9 p.m., however the rain dampened the protesters’ march and they were sheltering under trees at the time.
By 10 p.m., the march was underway. At PPB North Precinct, caution tape was set up with police standing by and ACLU Legal Observers were spotted in the area.
At about 10:30 p.m., about 200 people arrived and chanted “F— the police” at the North Precinct near Ne Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Emerson.
PPB stated they observed some people shining lasers and throwing rocks at officers and that anyone involved in criminal behavior like that could be subject to arrest, citation, or crowd control munitions.
At about 11:19 p.m., police said that the crowd is not allowed on NE Emerson St. A few minutes later, police stated they saw broken police car windows.
An unlawful assembly was declared by PPB shortly after 1 a.m. early Saturday morning and moments later a riot was declared.
A police spokesperson confirmed to KOIN 6 News instances of property damage officers observed done apparently by people in the group included a window of a Boys and Girls Club Van being broken and a dumpster being turned over on the street and lit on fire on Ne Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Police said crowd control munitions in the form of smoke canisters were deployed in the course of the evening and some arrests were made.

Thursday
An unlawful assembly was declared at the ICE building after a gathering of about 100 were outside the building–some of whom spray painted security cameras and were knocking on the doors.

In addition, several individuals were reportedly tampering with the control panel at the ICE building’s gate and people threw rocks, bottles, cones and paint balloons at Portland Police Bureau Officers.
Tear gas and pepper balls were apparently used by Federal Protective Services, but not PPB. PPB declared an unlawful assembly later in the night, dispersing protesters multiple times and making three arrests.
