VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — A driver crashed a stolen pickup in Vancouver after leading police on a chase that started in Portland, authorities said.

The chase started Thursday afternoon near NE 58th Avenue and NE Halsey Street in Portland when officers tried to pull over a pickup reported stolen from a firefighter in Washington, the Portland Police Bureau said. The driver took off and crossed into Washington via I-205 so Portland police stopped their pursuit.

A short time later, the driver crashed into a utility pole at N Devine Road and Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver. He was arrested by Vancouver police and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Vincente L. Burciago Jr, 30, was charged with possessing a stolen vehicle. Additional charges may be added as the investigation continues.

In 2017, Burciago was arrested on charges of reckless driving, reckless endangering, misdemeanor failure to perform the duties of a driver, criminal mischief, felony DUII and felony driving while suspended after crashing into a home in Southeast Portland.

He was convicted in September 2017 of driving with a suspended license, DUII and criminal mischief, and sentenced to 9 months in prison. After that he had a series of parole violations and is currently on post-prison supervision in Multnomah County.
