PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Although summer is still months away, it’s not too early to start planning a vacation.

Tuesday is also national ‘Plan Your Vacation Day.’

Travel Oregon recommends planning ahead, especially for vacations around the state. You’ll have a better choice of camp sites, hotel rooms and even airfare if you do decide to fly elsewhere.

“If you plan ahead studies show that you’re just a happier person when you know you have that vacation ahead of you — it’s a stress reliever of all things — and that’s before you even get the vacation,” Linea Gagliano with Travel Oregon says.

Travel Oregon likes to remind Oregonians that there is plenty to do within the state, like the 7 wonders of Oregon: the Columbia River Gorge, Crater Lake, Mt. Hood, Painted Hills, Oregon Coast, Smith Rock and The Wallowas.

“There’s so much to see and do here. You don’t have to get the kids on a plane, you can take a little drive and you could be anywhere,” Gagliano says.
