PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The owners of Northwest Behavioral Healthcare Services in Gladstone will be arraigned in federal court on Monday over allegations they evaded taxes.
Karl and Laurie Brady, who live in Oregon City, own the Northwest Behavioral Healthcare Services, according to the IRS. They’re charged with conspiracy to defraud the government and 6 counts of felony tax evasion for the years 2009-2014.
Northwest Behavioral Healthcare Services is a residential mental health, drug and alcohol rehabilitation for adolescents, according to the newly unsealed court documents.
Brady “owned a third of the business and was the Vice President of Accounting and Treasurer,” according to court documents.
Beginning around 2001, the Brady’s became involved with a series of tax avoidance schemes, culminating in the establishment of a series of nominees and so-called ministerial trusts, the IRS said.
The arraignment comes as the IRS is reminding the public of their lawful obligation to file a timely and accurate tax return. Monday is the deadline to file taxes for 2015.
Attempts to reach Northwest Behavioral Healthcare Services for comment were unsuccessful.
