PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Waterfront Blues Festival is halfway over and already has raised more food for the Sunshine Division than it had by this time last year.
Crowds of people are once filled Tom McCall Waterfront Park, where four stages are set up for the festival that runs through Sunday.
Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food to the park. In two days, 7,000 pounds have already been donated via large blue bins at the entrances.
That will help more than 20,000 Portland families.
“Summertime we see a spike in families with children that need a little help,” Kyle Camberg with the Sunshine Division said. “There are over 100,000 children in the Portland metro that access free and reduced lunch meals in school and so where do those families go in the summer? They turn to places like the Sunshine Division.”
