Portland, Ore. (KOIN) — A pursuit left one suspect and an officer injured after the chase ended at the I-205 North onramp from Hwy 213 near Oregon City.
Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office officials said officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit around 6:46 p.m. that concluded in Oregon City when the suspect, Gerald Barnes II, shot multiple times at law enforcement. Officer returned fire, hitting Barnes in the shoulder.
An Oregon City police officer was also injured in the eye after laying down spikes to stop Barnes.
When Barnes drove over the spikes, part of the material hit the officer in the eye, said Oregon City Police Captain Shaun Davis.
Barnes was treated at a hospital and released to investigators, while the Oregon City police officer was treated for his eye injury, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office tweeted. That officer was released Sunday morning.
Barnes was transported to the Clackamas County jail on multiple charges including attempted aggravated murder, attempted assault, unlawful use of a weapon and attempt to elude.
