PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Washington woman was arrested last week after police say she asked someone to kill her ex-husband.
Tanya Schmalz, of Battleground, Washington, was arrested last Monday. Court documents accuse Schmalz of soliciting help from a Beaverton woman to kill Schmalz’s ex-husband, Jonathan Schmalz, who lives in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Lt. Henry Reimann said Hillsboro Police then discovered a previous plot to kill Jonathan Schmalz from September 2016. She is now facing two counts of attempted murder.
Reimann said he did not know the relationship between Schmalz and the woman she asked to kill her ex-husband earlier this month, but Reimann said it was that woman who notified police of the murder-for-hire plot. That woman has not been charged with any crimes.
Jonathan Schmalz filed a motion on Wednesday for temporary custody of the two young children he has with Tanya Schmalz.
In the court filing, Jonathan Schmalz wrote, “Tanya is in custody for trying to poison,” adding, “she has tried before to kill me and [she is] unable to care for the children.”
Schmalz will be arraigned in Washington County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon.
