I was born and raised in Seattle, WA and love the Pacific Northwest! Moving to Portland was a good choice for me because it allowed me to explore new experiences while still feeling close enough to home.
Believe it or not, I never dreamed of becoming a TV meteorologist! I went into college to study engineering, yet an elective class in weather sparked my interest in forecasting.
I was an All-American collegiate boxer at the University of Washington in Seattle. My senior year, I made team captain and got to boss all the boys around. My official collegiate record is 4-3. My all-time favorite matches included wins against at UC Berkeley and the West Point Military Academy.
I am half Chinese. My mom emigrated from Taiwan in her 20s and met my father here in the states. I have family all over Taiwan and mainland China. Most people have no clue I’m Chinese when they meet me!
Some of my outdoor hobbies include mountaineering and rock climbing. I have reached the summit of many PNW peaks (e.g. Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Mt. Hood) and plan to tackle more in Oregon. You can find me rock climbing at Smith Rock State Park every spring and fall. A life goal of mine is to climb up El Cap in Yosemite National Park.
Back in college, I worked in an Alaskan fishery for a summer with a group of friends. Long days were spent picking bones out of salmon inside of a processing plant. The tough work was worth getting to spend 6 weeks in the Alaskan frontier. I was able to see wild grizzly bears and dine on some of the finest fresh salmon in the world.
I love Jeep Wranglers! I owned one before moving to Portland, but sold it quickly for a more convenient city car. My goal is to find and rebuild my own 1990’s YJ a little down the road.
I have a black cat named Jetplane. He’s really fast. I eventually want to get a dog that’s some sort of adventure breed to explore with. But first I need to get a yard!
One of my secret talents is with a yo-yo. If someone handed me one, I could certainly bust out four to five tricks.
I love to cook! I grew up watching the Food Network and spend much of my free time (and calories) learning to cook different cuisines. In another life, I’d probably start my own restaurant.
