Southwest Portland’s Hopewell House Hospice will be shutting down permanently unless it can secure enough funds to reopen.

After its closure in late 2019, Friends of Hopewell House worked with Legacy Health–who operated the facility–to negotiate a plan to reopen the city’s only hospice house. However, the home is slated to be listed for sale next month.

Executive Director Scott MacEachern said about $3 million is needed to meet the goal of buying the house.

On Tuesday, President and founder of the Hopewell House–a Portland hospice in need of funds–Joan Strong Buell–joined AM Extra Tuesday to talk more about the efforts to buy back the home.
