PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Memorial Day falls on May 30 this year and shoppers can count on seeing a lot of great deals during the holiday weekend.
Knowing that many consumers have an extra day off from work, retailers offer a slew of sales over Memorial Day weekend – and we predict that shoppers are going to be ready to shop this year.
To see what shoppers plans are for Memorial Day this year, BlackFriday.com asked 1,116 Americans in April. According to our survey:
- More than half (61%) of Americans are likely to shop or celebrate Memorial Day this year
- The top categories that Americans plan to shop during Memorial Day weekend this year include:
- Food & Beverage – 57%
- Clothing – 39%
- Decorations – 28%
- Home and Garden – 27%
- Given the impacts of inflation, most shoppers are expecting their budgets to be modest (74% planning to spend under $99), but over a quarter (26%) are already planning to spend over $100.
