PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -– Two people armed with baseball bats are accused of repeatedly beating a man in downtown Portland, police said.
Officers first responded to reports of an assault on February 27 when they learned a man had been hit repeatedly with baseball bats. The man told police he suffered a 3 inch cut to the head and was also hit in the chest, stomach and legs.
A witness told police he was in a car at the intersection of SW 2nd Avenue and W Burnside Street when he saw 2 suspects arguing with the alleged victim.
The suspects, 55-year-old Teliza J Blackwell and 49-year-old Martin M Astorga, were arrested on the 100 block of W Burnside Street over the weekend, police said.
Blackwell and Astorga, who are both charged with second-degree assault, are accused of chasing the victim until he reportedly tripped and ran into a parked car.
That’s when the alleged beating occurred.
Surveillance video reportedly shows Blackwell and Astorga entering a chapel empty-handed. Video recorded shortly after shows them each carrying a baseball bat.
Both suspects appeared in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Monday.
