VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — A shooter remains at large after opening fire and wounding 3 people in a Vancouver backyard in the early hours of Sunday, police officials told KOIN 6 News.

The gunfire erupted around 4:30 a.m. on Carolina Lane when “an unknown person” walked up to the group and fired. The 3 victims are expected to recover, Vancouver police said. But no one has been arrested and police noted there is no suspect description at this time.

Neighbors Ryan and Tiffany Lounsbury were asleep when the bullets flew.

“About 4:30 in the morning, and I heard this quick pop-pop-pop, then a pause, and another pop-pop-pop and it woke me out of a dead sleep,” Ryan told KOIN 6 News.

“There were at least four rounds, maybe more. But the police showed up pretty rapidly after that,” Tiffany said. “I had actually heard hollering and yelling, and what sounded like a small crowd of people out on the corner at about 3:15. That’s what woke me up. And I tried to go back to sleep thinking ‘Oh, maybe they’re just racing and what not,’ but then I fell back to sleep and about an hour later we both shot out of bed when we heard the gunshots.”

Authorities said the investigation is active and ongoing. Neighbors said the gathering had both sides of the street lined with cars, and investigators said most fled once the gunfire broke out.

The Lounsburys said they moved into this quiet Vancouver neighborhood 4 years ago and have never experienced anything like this.

“It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood. This almost never happens here,” Ryan said. “And the fact that the police showed up as quickly as they did, I feel about as safe as I can be in a situation like this.”
