PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Protesters remain camped outside the ICE facility on Southwest Macadam Avenue despite federal police delivering them a notice to vacate.

Notices were distributed to the campers at 10:30 a.m. Monday to evacuate the property. The flyers say it’s illegal to block entrances to federal property and those who do not move will be arrested. However, no timeframe was listed.

While a few protesters packed up and left, majority of them were still outside the facility on Tuesday. They refuse to leave the entrance and driveway to the ICE building, which was shut down last week due to security concerns.

Although the office is closed, people are still showing up for their scheduled appointments. Some of them, including a Hillsboro family, told KOIN 6 News that they were never notified that the facility temporarily shut down.

The ICE protesters headed to Portland City Council Wednesday. They said they want the city to kick ICE out of Portland and revoke their permit.

There about about 80 tents still set up and more than 100 campers.

Some thought Homeland Security agents were going to try and force them off the property overnight, but that didn’t happen. Authorities were back on Tuesday handing out more notices to protesters, who then proceeded to rip them up and shout at the officers.

“We are not worried about them. We are not waiting anything out except for the fact that we’re here to make a change,” protester Danialle James said.

Federal agents have indicated they’ll move the protesters off the property at some point, but not soon enough for some who live nearby.

Charlies Williams said he put the American flag up on his balcony when the protesters removed one at the ICE building — replacing it with a “Refugees Welcome” flag. He wants the city, not just the feds, to step in.

The city picked up barricades that protesters had placed in the street Monday night, but demonstrators continued to bring in building materials to strengthen a wall they built between their camp alongside the facility.
