PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A firearm was discovered on the playground of the Cherry Park Elementary School, the Portland Police Bureau says.
A school custodian found the gun tucked inside a backpack on the playground, according to officials. The custodian then turned it into the office, prompting the school to call the authorities.
Once officers responded, they say they found two men near the scene and detained them. One of the men, 38-year-old Timothy A. Gallagher, was arrested while the other was released.
PPB says Gallagher was booked at the Multnomah County Detention Center on a felon in possession of a firearm charge and a parole detainer. The gun was seized as evidence.
There were no classes Thursday and PPB stated there’s “no indication that any students or staff were ever involved.”
KOIN 6 has reached out to the David Douglas School District for comment and is awaiting a response.
