PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was shot with his own weapon during a struggle with a Port of Portland officer at the Portland airport Friday morning.
The Port of Portland said the man was at baggage claim and when the officer approached him, he pulled out a gun.
A witness told KOIN 6 News the scuffle started near baggage claim carousel 8.
The gun went off during the struggle and injured the suspect. The officer did not fire his weapon.
Officials with the Port of Portland confirmed a man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Port of Portland police officer received a minor injury, but not from gunfire.
The gun involved was recovered.
The airport is open but the lower arrivals lane is blocked off. People picking up passengers are being directed to the upper level. The taxi and rideshare lanes are open.
Baggage claim carousels 5-8 are closed while police investigate.
No flights were impacted.
The East County Major Crimes Team is investigating and anyone with information should contact the Port of Portland.
